The First Annual Phoenix Spring Showcase
May 20, 2008
By: Chris Ramirez
The First Annual Phoenix Spring Showcase was a good turnout at Phoenix College.
The event is a local fan-friendly event with teams from Arizona, Nevada,
Southern California area with some decent players who are trying to make their
mark. Director Chad Groth did a masterful job of attracting this past weekends
tournament. There was a few talented players. However, there were still several
players who caught my eye over the weekend.
Carrick Felix, 6-6 - Felix was very impressive at The Spring Showcase. He’s very
long and bouncy. He will be a great fit on a mid major level.
Marcus Ruppel, 6-7 SF - Ruppel has a good body, with length, and he moves very
well. He’s a good athlete with some bounce. He finished very well at the rim and
his shot is definitely playable at this stage of his career. Overall, though, I
was very impressed with Ruppel as a prospect.
Jahii Carson, 5-10 PG - I am really impress with Carson’s game. He has an
Excellent feel for the game, makes good decisions and understands what it means
to be a point guard. He is a very good handler and passer.
Colin Borchert, 6-7 PF Borchert got the size and athleticism to be an effective
player inside, but he prefers to spend time on the perimeter over-handling the
ball. He is a very skilled with the ability to play on the perimeter and with
his back to the basket. He is likely a high major prospect.
Terrell Stoglin, 6-0 PG A lefty with a high skill level, Stoglin was impressive
at the The Spring Showcase. He has the ability to score, and shows good vision
and instincts for a young point. He has the ability to create his own shot off
the bounce. He’s very talented for a young guard. There’s no question he’ll be a
D1 prospect on a mid major level.
