GBOA West Regional Performers

The GBOA West Regional was held this past weekend May 3-4 at the Galen Center on the campus of USC. It provided many close games with top class college prospects. Some of the top players in that tournament were: In Alphabetical Order

Michael Avery 6’4 Shooting Guard- Belmont Shore

Avery will be attending Crespi High School, Encino, CA. Avery is an 8th grader who recently made news when he committed to University of Kentucky to play basketball. Michael is strong defender with a nice jumper and leaping ability. He has a lot of potential and growth expected in the next few years.

Colin Borchert 6’9 Power Forward- Branch West

Borchert is from Raymon Kellis High School (AZ). This Class of 2009 post player is strong and can play with his back facing the basket and has a nice face up game to go with it. He currently has scholarship offers from USC and UNLV but interest from Arizona State and Kentucky.

Andy Brown 6’8 Small Forward/Power Forward- Branch West

Brown is from Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana, CA. This Class of 2009 forward has a nice 3pt shot and outside jumper but also has the ability to post up and go to work inside. Andy is a player who is should receive more college interest soon. He currently has offers from Michigan and San Diego but interest from California and Arizona.

Justin Cobbs 6’3 Point Guard/Shooting Guard- California Supreme

Cobbs is from Bishop Montgomery High School, Torrance, CA. This Class of 2009 guard is a physical guard who can blow right past you or post up on you. Nice defender also. He currently has offers from USC, Long Beach State and Washington State.

Kyle Fogg 6’3 Shooting Guard- Belmont Shore

Fogg is from Brea Olinda High School, Brea, CA. This rising senior has a perfect stroke from the free throw line and 3pt line. He is good off the dribble and can create for himself and teammates. He has a choice between going to prep school and having more Pac 10 schools offer or sign now with a lower school. He is a solid player which ever route he chooses

Gary Franklin 6’2 Point Guard- California Supreme

Franklin is from Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana, CA. This Class of 2010 point guard is a good shooter with a high basketball IQ. He is also a lock down defender who likes to run and create easy offense. Arizona looks like a solid candidate to land the talented Franklin.

Cezar Guerrero 5’11 Point Guard- Belmont Shore

Guerrero is from St. John Bosco High School, Bellflower, CA. This class of 2011 super freshman is an AND 1 highlight waiting to happen. He loves to run the break and either show off his offensive game or back a jaw dropping pass to a teammate for an easy basket. He should have his pick of major colleges.

Jordan Hamilton 6-7 Small Forward- Team Chandler

Hamilton is from Compton Dominguez (CA) High School. This 5 star class of 2009 stud is athletic and has the complete offensive game. He can shoot off the dribble, create, jump and score. Texas, Kansas and USC look to be the leaders for Hamilton.

Solomon Hill 6’6 Small Forward- California Supreme

Hill is from Fairfax High School, Los Angeles, CA. This class of 2009 forward is known as the wingman to Renardo Sidney but Solomon can do a lot in this own right. He is athletic with great length. He has the ability to slash, hit 3s, pass and defend. He is receiving Pac 10 and Big 12 interest.

Nick Johnson 6’2 Shooting Guard- California Supreme

Johnson is from Highland High School (AZ). This class of 2011 is the nephew of former NBA player Dennis Johnson, Nick is athletic, can create his own, also defend very well. He is a player who is loaded with potential and someone all major colleges should be drooling over.

Darius Morris 6’3 Point Guard- Belmont Shore

Morris is from Windward High School, Los Angeles, CA. This class of 2009 combo guard is athletic, loves to run the break to show off one of his finishing dunks or passes. He can defend very well and has good court savvy. He has offers from USC, Michigan and Washington State.

Victor Rudd 6’9 Small Forward- 2D1 Basketball Academy

Rudd is from Van Nuys (CA) High School. This class of 2009 athletic wing player can play small forward and power forward, he excels in the half court game with his range on his shot, post up play and tough defense. He should have his pick of Pac 10 schools.

Renardo Sidney 6-9 Power Forward- La Dream Team

Sidney is from legendary powerhouse Fairfax High School, Los Angeles, CA. The #1 player in the Nation who can do almost everything on the court. He excels when he is pacing the basket. He can score with the best of them. USC and UCLA top his college list.

Michael Snaer 6-5 Shooting Guard- Inland Reebok

Snaer is from Rancho Verde (CA)High School. This rising 2009 shooting guard is a complete player that not many people know about. He is a great defender, good ball handler who can play both guard spots and excel at it. He is also a deadly scorer. USC, Cal and Washington top his list of offers.

Jeremy Tyler 6’10 Power Forward- California Supreme

Tyler is from San Diego High School (CA). The #1 player in the Nation for the Class of 2010. Tyler is often called the best California Big Man since Bill Walton and comparable to Amare Stoudmire. That is a great comparison because Tyler is athletic, can run the break, has a great array of post moves, dunks and fade ways. Tyler is an easy 20 pts and 15 reb per night in college and USC tops his list.

David Wear 6’10 Small Forward/Power Forward- Belmont Shore

Wear is from Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana, CA. David like his twin brother Travis have committed to the University of North Carolina for the class of 2009. More of a post player than his twin. He will dominate the post with his length and aggressiveness.

Travis Wear 6’10 Small Forward/Power Forward- Belmont Shore

Wear is from Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana, CA. Travis like his twin brother David have committed to the University of North Carolina for the class of 2009. More of an outside player than his twin. He has a nice shot and nice passing and defensive skills.

Derrick Williams 6’5 Small Forward- I Can All Stars

Williams is from La Mirada (CA) High School. This athletic forward can play small and power forward. He has a high motor and never quits. Is always around the ball. He can defend and use his athleticism for one of his huge dunks, California tops his college list.
